LGBT community declares war on renowned psychiatrist and mental health pioneer because he won’t surrender to delusional liberal ideology

The Orwellian Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has waged a full-fledged war on one of the world’s leading psychiatrists over his unequivocal position on transgenderism: That it’s a mental disorder in need of treatment, and not a personal gender choice to be praised as simply another expression of humanity.

In an open letter that even the left-leaning The Daily Beast described in embarrassment as being both short and trite, HRC declared on no basis other than its own special interest bias that renowned mental health expert Dr. Paul McHugh is perpetuating “junk science” by claiming that people with gender dysphoria are mentally ill.

Despite having been elected to the prestigious National Academy of Science’s (NAS) Institute of Medicine and serving as Psychiatrist-in-Chief at the world-renowned Johns Hopkins Hospital, among many other noteworthy accolades, Dr. McHugh is just another crackpot in the eyes of HRC because he refuses to tow the line of political correctness on this latest perversion to make the rounds of the sexual revolution.

“I’m proud of what I’ve achieved,” Dr. McHugh told LifeSiteNews in an exclusive interview responding to accusations that his views on transgenderism are somehow invalid. “I’ve been a part of American psychiatry for more than 50 years. These are things they (HRC) wouldn’t even understand. They want to portray me as some kind of crank.”

Transgenderism is no more normal than bulimia or anorexia, says McHugh

Not to be intimidated by HRC’s cultural fascism, Dr. McHugh doesn’t plan to back down anytime soon on spreading the truth about the dangers of transgenderism, including the fact that affirming it as normal is actually doing more damage to those who suffer from it. Though his views may not seem to be as popular as they once were, they are being heard – and rather keenly – by many people who recognize the transgender craze as being not quite normal, and certainly not healthy.

“[P]olicy makers and the media are doing no favors either to the public or the transgendered by treating their confusions as a right in need of defending rather than as a mental disorder that deserves understanding, treatment and prevention,” wrote Dr. McHugh in an often-cited essay, entitled “Transgender Surgery Is Not the Solution,” that was published in The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) back in 2014.

“This intensely felt sense of being transgendered constitutes a mental disorder in two respects. The first is that the idea of sex misalignment is simply mistaken – it does not correspond with physical reality. The second is that it can lead to grim psychological outcomes.”

Supported by colleagues like Dr. Michelle Cretella, president of the American College of Pediatricians (AcPeds), Dr. McHugh has far more experience than anyone at the HRC in dealing with the issues surrounding gender confusion, including how sufferers basically detach themselves from reality when they begin to regard their sickness as normal, causing long-term damage to themselves.

McHugh equates transgenderism to diseases such as anorexia or bulimia nervosa, where those who suffer from such illnesses strongly believe that their physical appearance is different that what it really is. For example, they can look at themselves in a mirror and see a severely overweight individual, which causes them to act abnormally, allowing their illness to take hold of them.

“The transgendered suffer a disorder of ‘assumption’ like those in other disorders familiar to psychiatrists. With the transgendered, the disordered assumption is that the individual differs from what seems given in nature – namely one’s maleness or femaleness…

“People who undergo sex-reassignment surgery do not change from men to women or vice versa. Rather, they become feminized men or masculinized women. Claiming that this is a civil-rights matter and encouraging surgical intervention is in reality to collaborate with and promote a mental disorder.”
